snake, honey, thaw
a poem
Jul 6, 2023
Dripping from the boughs
the nectar-delicacy rests
puddling on the ground
exploding flight without fight
the slither come to taste
ignoring the bees’ honey treat
winding toward the sweet feast
the snake knew desire
waiting under the limbs
shimmering with unsuntouched frost
the bowed-flesh apple poses
pulsing blood and baiting breaths
flicking a slick-silver tongue
the rosy cheeks flush
braiding lengths and bedding lust
striking the writhing fruit
the viper laps the puddle
thawing the icy earth beneath.
